Hi welcome back to my blog! Today I am teaching you how to tell the time. When your telling the time on a digital clock there is a 24 hour time. Thats when the time says the numbers on going after the 12pm it continues with 13 14 and 15 instead of 1 2 and 3. You can learn all about it in my slideshow! I hope you enjoy!
Tumu Town Trip!
Hi everyone! Thank you for tuning into my blog today! On Thursday 20th of May 2021 me and my hub went on a fun trip to town. We had so much fun and I hope you have fun reading and learning all about our trip! We first stopped at Margaret Mahy. At Margret Mahy we stopped and talked about what we were going to do that day then Rata went to Victoria square named after Queen Victoria.
Victoria Square!
On our way to Victoria Square we saw lots of Māori artwork. When we got there we got to explore. I saw a pou. It has a lot of Maori designs on it. There was a picnic table that talked about sharing and gathering together. We also saw a statue of Queen Victoria and Captain Cook. I learned that Captain Cook was the first Englishman to step foot on New Zealand. We also saw a maori mat. It talked about gathering together and sharing. It was number 8 of the 13 mats in New Zealand. We also drew the pou and its designs as we leaned on the picnic table. Victoria Square was super fun and super cool, but I knew there was a lot more fun ahead of me!
Margret Mahy!
Our next rotation was with Mrs Carney. We walked over to Margret Mahy park with our parent helpers and teacher aids. At Margret Mahy we met Mrs Carney and started our rotation. We talked about what was important in the park and the story behind it being built. We talked about how people were afraid of coming out from their homes after the earthquake and how they made the park to attract people back to the city. After we learned all that important information we got to have a scavenger hunt! We got into buddies. My buddy was Lucy. We walked around looking for the things on the list. After that we talked about the things on the list and its connection to New Zealand. After we all got pieces of paper and some crayons. We put our paper against one of our favorite carvings and rubbed our crayon against it making the design appear on the paper. After a few more minutes of drawing we all moved back to our spot and had some morning tea and continued onto the next rotation.
The Mats and Tuna!
The first mat we saw was the one in the Margaret mahy park. Mrs Bryce told us what it ment and how the designs all had different meanings. This mat was about playing, having fun and family. One of the patterns looked like leaves. It talked about healing leafs that were actually used to heal. We thought they added healing leaves because people might get hurt at the park. Next we went out of the park. We looked at some other mats around Christchurch. We saw three mats with Mrs Bryce. It was super fun but the fun had only just begun. Next we headed over to the Eels. We were super blessed and lucky because we got to feed them. I learned that the Moari name for Eels was Tuna. I also learned that the Tuna in cans were pronounced Chu-na. We all got some cat food to feed the Eels. I saw one but it did not eat from my spoon so I just dropped the food in the water. Beth was really lucky because the eel ate the food right off her spoon! I loved that rotation because we got to feed the eels!
Waka!
The Waka was my last rotation but it was my favourite! I had been waiting all day for that moment. When I saw other people on the Waka I thought it would be easy to just glide across the water… But I was wrong! I headed onto the water and we used Moari commands to know when to move in the water. When the commander would say some magic words we would start. We would chant He! When we put the oars in the water, we would say Ha! When we hit on the put. When I went back and forth on the water creating ripples. It was so fun! It was my first ever time on any kind of boat! Yes, it was my favorite but again I tell you it was hard work!
I loved my trip and I highly recommend going! I had a time of my life and still learned so much! On this trip the thing I found most interesting was why they built Margaret mahy. The trip has helped me with my PBL because I have learned all this information and seen all this artwork and I would love to incorporate them into our school!Did you know about those things before this post? Today I was learning about Ōtautahi-Christchurch. The name Ōtautahi comes from the Moari cheif tuatahi. He owned a large amount of Ōtautahi coming from the Margret Mahy Playground stretching out a bit. Today the area the tautahi owned is replaced with the Margret Mahy Playground which is a fun family playground known throughout New Zealand. The Playground was built after the Christchurch earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. The first settlers in Christchurch were the European Moa Hunters. They set forests on fire so they could use the Moas for food. Between 1500 and 1700 the North Island Moari came to Christchurch. By then the Moa hunters were all killed or left Christchurch.
